We all know that Paris is full of art nouveau architectural gems – famous shops, hotels and restaurants (Printemps, La Samaritaine, Maxim’s,..) as well as apartment houses. \u00c9glise Saint-Jean de Montmartre<\/strong> is a unique example of an art nouveau church<\/em> located in the area of Montmartre.<\/p>\n

\u00c9glise Saint-Jean de Montmartre was built between 1894 and 1904. The architect behind it is\u00a0Anatole de Baudot, a student of the honored\u00a0Eug\u00e8ne Viollet-le-Duc<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anatole de Baudot decides to use a revolutionary system at that time. This system consists in a kind of metallic mesh, whose backbone is made of one single wire. The innovation reinforced concrete structure (a system developed by the engineer Paul Cottancin<\/a>) meets the recognizable elements of art nouveau. Walls and extra thin columns are made of piled bricks. The concrete dome. Stained glasses with traditional christian subjects. The organ\u00a0by\u00a0Aristide Cavaill\u00e9-Coll<\/a>.
\nFor the very first time concrete was not hidden, but played one of the leading roles in an architectural ensemble. The building passed all the security tests, and the birth of a new architectural language was proclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u00c9glise Saint-Jean de Montmartre is a building of a striking beauty, both inside and outside. Red bricks, wood and concrete blends in an airy and lacy construction.\u00a0<\/span>It’s the revolution that made XX century architecture possible.<\/p>\n
