We’ve already talked about Ossip Zadkine’s studio. Today let’s open the doors of the second artistic atelier – mus\u00e9e Bourdelle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Antoine Bourdelle<\/strong> was born\u00a0at Montauban, southern France in 1861. His artistic talent was developing since childhood. The future sculptor was taking drawing classes in his hometown, then\u00a0sculpture classes at the art school in Toulouse.\u00a0At the age of 24 he won a scholarship to prestigious\u00a0\u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts <\/a>and moved to Paris.\u00a0In 1885 he settled down in\u00a0the studio on 16, impasse du Maine where he created his first monumental sculptures dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven. Several years later Bourdelle became Auguste Rodin’s assistant and\u00a0a teacher to many\u00a0future prominent artists. The first personal exhibition took place in 1905:\u00a039 sculptures, 18 paintings and 21 drawings were displayed at a gallery on Rue Royale. Three years later Bourdelle leaves his celebrated teacher to create his own way full of allegories and balancing between classic\u00a0and modern art. He will discover the main spirit\u00a0of his works – heroism<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn 1910-1913 Bourdelle creates the bas-reliefs for Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es<\/a>\u00a0which are\u00a0<\/span>consecrated to Parnassus, to the Dance, to the muses of the Stage and Poetry:<\/p>\n

He continues\u00a0indefatigably working and numerous masterpieces come into the world:\u00a0La Vierge \u00e0 l’offrande (The Virgin of the offering)<\/em> (1919-1923, Alsace); La France<\/em> (1925, Paris);\u00a0Monument au g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Alv\u00e9ar (Monument to general Alvear)<\/em>\u00a0(1926, Buenos Aires); Monument \u00e0 Adam Mickiewic<\/em> (Monument to Adam Mickiewic)<\/em> (1929, Paris).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
